November 13, 2025 is one of those dates Nigerian football fans will remember for a while.
It was the night the Super Eagles faced Gabon in the CAF World Cup qualifying playoff semi-final in Rabat, Morocco — and what looked like a tense battle eventually turned into a serious Nigerian football party. ๐๐ณ๐ฌ
The final score?
Nigeria 4-1 Gabon after extra time! ๐ฅ๐ฅ
But if you only look at the final score, you might think Nigeria had an easy night.
No be so e happen.
This match had everything — missed opportunities, pressure, a late Gabon equaliser, extra time, tired legs, fresh attacking energy and, eventually, a Victor Osimhen masterclass.
⚽ Akor Adams breaks the deadlock
For much of normal time, Nigeria struggled to put the game beyond Gabon's reach.
The Super Eagles had attacking moments, but Gabon's defence made things difficult. Nigeria needed to be more clinical in the final third, while Gabon were happy to stay in the fight and frustrate their opponents.
Then, in the 78th minute, Akor Adams finally found the breakthrough.
A defensive mistake from Gabon gave Adams the opportunity he needed, and he made no mistake.
Nigeria 1-0 Gabon. ๐ณ๐ฌ
At that point, Nigerian fans would have been thinking, “Okay, let's just manage this game and finish the job.”
But football had other plans. ๐
๐ฑ Gabon spoil the party
With only minutes remaining in normal time, Gabon refused to disappear.
In the 89th minute, Mario Lemina's effort took a deflection and found its way into the Nigerian net.
1-1.
Just like that, the game was level again.
Nigeria had gone from being in control of the tie to facing another 30 minutes of football.
And for players who had already battled through 90 minutes, extra time was going to test everything fitness, concentration and mentality.
๐ฅ Then came Chidera Ejuke
Nigeria started extra time with renewed energy.
In the 97th minute, substitute Chidera Ejuke stepped up and restored the Super Eagles' lead.
Nigeria 2-1 Gabon! ๐ฆ ๐ฅ
That goal was huge.
Ejuke's introduction brought another dimension to Nigeria's attack, and his goal gave the Super Eagles the breathing space they desperately needed after Gabon's late equaliser.
But there was still one man who wasn't finished.
Victor Osimhen. ๐
๐ Osimhen takes over
If Gabon thought they could fight their way back again, Osimhen had other ideas.
The Nigerian striker struck in the 102nd minute, extending the lead to 3-1.
And just eight minutes later, he was on the scoresheet again.
110th minute. Osimhen. 4-1. Game over. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
From a nervy 1-1 after 90 minutes, Nigeria suddenly had a three-goal cushion.
That is the kind of extra-time madness football fans live for. ๐
๐ฆ The players had to dig deep
One of the interesting things about this game was how different Nigeria looked at different stages.
During normal time, the Super Eagles struggled to turn their attacking movements into enough clear goalscoring opportunities.
There were moments when Nigeria needed quicker decisions around the box and more accuracy with the final ball.
Gabon also deserves credit for making the match uncomfortable.
They didn't simply sit back and surrender. They stayed competitive, fought for second balls and punished Nigeria when they got their opportunity.
The late equaliser showed exactly why Nigeria couldn't relax.
But once extra time arrived, the Super Eagles found another level.
Fresh legs from Ejuke helped, while Osimhen's movement, physical strength and finishing ability became increasingly difficult for Gabon's defence to handle.
⭐ Osimhen's big moment
For Osimhen, scoring twice in extra time was the perfect way to put his stamp on the game.
He had to work for his opportunities, just like the rest of the Nigerian attack, but when the chances arrived, he was ready.
That's what separates top strikers from ordinary ones.
You can struggle for parts of a game and still become the player everybody remembers when the important moments arrive.
And on this night, Osimhen certainly did that.
๐ณ๐ฌ A comeback within a comeback
There's another reason this victory makes for a good throwback.
Nigeria themselves had to respond after Gabon pulled the game back to 1-1.
The Super Eagles could have allowed the equaliser to affect their confidence.
Instead, they came out in extra time, scored early through Ejuke and then finished the job through Osimhen.
That mentality mattered.
๐ Nigeria march into the final
The 4-1 extra-time victory sent Nigeria through to the CAF World Cup playoff final against DR Congo.
So, looking back at that November night, the final score tells only part of the story.
It was a game Nigeria had to fight for.
It was a game that tested their patience.
It was a game where Gabon refused to go quietly.
And ultimately, it became a night when the Super Eagles found another gear when it mattered most.
Akor Adams opened the door.
Chidera Ejuke kicked it wide open.
Victor Osimhen slammed it shut. ๐ฅ๐
