NNPC Takes Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Investment Drive to Abu Dhabi as Global Energy Leaders Gather

NNPC takes Nigeria's oil and gas investment drive to ADIPEC 2026 in Abu Dhabi, seeking foreign capital, strategic partnerships and opportunities acros
Nigeria is taking its oil and gas investment ambitions to the international stage, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited using one of the world's biggest energy gatherings to put the country's petroleum opportunities before global investors.

At the 2026 Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC), NNPC is making a strong pitch for foreign capital, strategic partnerships and fresh business opportunities across Nigeria's upstream, midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.

Led by its Group Chief Executive Officer, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the NNPC delegation joined international energy executives, government representatives, financiers and industry stakeholders in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, for the four-day event running from November 2 to 5.

But beyond the exhibition and high-level meetings, Nigeria's participation comes with a bigger economic question: how much international investment can the country attract to unlock the potential of its oil and gas industry?

NNPC Opens Its Doors to International Investors

Following the conference's opening ceremony, NNPC unveiled its exhibition stand at A400 in the Atrium, showcasing its operations and investment opportunities across the Nigerian petroleum value chain.

The stand is designed to serve as a meeting point for prospective investors, international energy companies and financial institutions interested in exploring opportunities in Nigeria.

For NNPC, the objective is to encourage commercial discussions, attract strategic partners and identify areas where international capital and technical expertise can support the development of the country's energy sector.

Nigeria's petroleum industry requires significant investment to strengthen production, improve infrastructure, expand gas utilisation and develop downstream capacity. Engaging international investors at a global event like ADIPEC offers an opportunity to bring these priorities directly to the attention of decision-makers.

Top Nigerian Energy Officials Join the Investment Push

The Nigerian delegation also featured some of the country's leading petroleum sector officials.

Among them were Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo; Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Patience Oyekunle; and Commission Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan.

Their presence highlights the government's involvement in presenting Nigeria as an investment destination for the global energy industry.

NNPC's exhibition also attracted prominent business figures, including its Board Chairman, Ahmadu Musa Kida, members of the company's board and Dangote Group President and Chief Executive, Aliko Dangote.

Why This Investment Drive Matters to Nigeria

Attracting foreign investment into the petroleum industry is not just about securing international partnerships or signing business agreements.

For Nigeria, the bigger opportunity lies in what such investments could deliver at home.

More capital directed towards exploration and production could support efforts to increase oil output. Investment in gas infrastructure could improve the country's ability to process, transport and utilise its enormous gas resources.

Meanwhile, stronger investment in the midstream and downstream segments could support refining, storage, distribution and other petroleum-related businesses.

These developments could have wider implications for government revenue, employment, industrial growth and energy security.

However, attracting investors is only one part of the equation. Delivering a competitive investment environment, maintaining regulatory certainty, improving infrastructure and translating discussions into actual projects will be equally important.

ADIPEC 2026 Brings the Global Energy Industry Together

The opening ceremony featured an address by UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber.

ADIPEC 2026 is expected to attract more than 239,000 participants from over 170 countries, making it a major platform for international energy discussions, technology showcases and commercial partnerships.

NNPC's leadership will also participate in strategic and technical sessions throughout the conference, discussing developments shaping the global energy industry and opportunities for collaboration.

For Nigeria, the message at Abu Dhabi is clear: the country wants international investors to look beyond its existing petroleum operations and consider the opportunities across its entire oil and gas value chain.

The real test, however, will be how many of these conversations eventually translate into investments, infrastructure and measurable benefits for the Nigerian economy.

My thoughts 💭: Nigeria does not just need investors to show interest in its oil and gas industry; it needs that interest converted into projects that increase production, strengthen energy infrastructure and create economic opportunities at home.
